Tuition Class.

As a teacher, senior leader and deputy headteacher for schools in Birmingham, Walsall and Manchester, I have considerable experience in teaching children of all abilities to a high standard. I pride myself in applying the same thorough approach in tutoring all my students working towards the 11 Plus exams.

The information below outlines how my personalised approach to tutoring continues to prove successful. I can confidently assure parents, their child will receive the most thorough and robust tuition programme at Empower 11+ Grammar Tuition, but in return, they will be required to invest serious time, effort and hard work in order to succeed. I cannot stress enough, that in all my years of teaching one thing remains true - there is no substitute for hard work. In my experience, given the choice between a child with natural ability who lacks effort, and a child who is less talented but has the desire and discipline for hard work, then success in the 11 Plus entrance exams is more likely to be achieved by the latter.

Tuition lessons.

- are only available for children currently studying in years 3, 4 and 5 at school.

- consist of no more than 6 children per class.

- run for 2 hours per lesson for each class.

- are taught only by myself and not by an assistant. As the tutor I am aware of every child’s progress at any given stage and every child is guaranteed to receive the same consistent, high standard of teaching and learning.

- will always be followed up with feedback to parents at the end of every lesson.

High standards and expectations.

Should your child be successful in obtaining a place at a grammar school, it is important to remember this is only the beginning of their journey. Good tutoring is not simply about teaching your child to pass an entrance exam, but in equipping them with the aptitude, knowledge and confidence to meet the demands and challenges of grammar school life once they are there. There is nothing more disheartening for a child than to pass the entrance exam and then struggle to meet the demands of a grammar school education. Good tuition is about embedding depth of learning and enabling students to become confident, independent learners - to ensure they are not just exam ready, but also grammar school ready!

Getting started.

If you feel Empower 11+ Tuition is right for your child, or would like to discuss this further, you can contact me directly on 0121 369 0786. All classes are filled strictly on a first come, first served basis. The majority of the students I teach are referrals from parents of children I have tutored, and unfortunately as a result, demand for places can exceed those available. Please note, I keep the number of students in every class to no more than 6 children; this is so that every child gets the professional attention they deserve for them to succeed. Once the class is filled, I cannot compromise the quality of teaching and learning by exceeding this number.

The first step is to complete the registration form. I will contact you to discuss your aims and those of your child, as well as answer any initial questions you may have. Your child will be invited to sit an initial assessment. This will assess your child’s strengths and areas for improvement in each of the main subject areas. The assessment is no more than 90 minutes long and a break is provided between sections of the test. Should the outcome lead to a tuition place being offered and agreed, the breakdown of the results will also inform your child’s initial study content for tutoring. Please note the initial assessment on its own does not determine if a tuition place is offered. I do NOT involve myself in unethical practices such as cherry-picking the brightest and the best. Careful consideration is given to a child’s attitude towards good discipline and hard work and the pace of progress required to meet their needs, as much as their current ability. This is weighed against the time available for them to make the progress to be prepared in time for the 11 Plus entrance exams.
